Diversity in a box

A BUNDjugend (Friends of the earth Germany youth group) project for the UN Convention on Biological Diversity 2008

From May 19^th till May 30^th 2008 the 9th UN Convention on Biological Diversity will take place in Germany. 5000 participants from all over the world will meet in Bonn to discuss actions against the continuing destruction of our nature. And we are running out of time, because in 1992 the world's heads of government and state decided that the rapid loss of biodiversity shall be at least reduced until 2010.

We want to show the participants what's important to you, the kids of the world. Take everything you can imagine concerning "diversity“ and put it in a box.

This can be whatever you like: a poem on reed rustling in the wind, sound recordings of mating frogs, dried berries, pictures of your friends, drawings of clouds, a collection of your favorite games, hooves of a cow cast in plaster, snakeskin, eggshells or a sample of water, soil, charts, music, descriptions, films, patterns, fingerprints, recipes, views, wishes and so on.

Feel free to choose a topic, e.g. "my village in a box", "our garden“, "the hands of my family" - everything is possible!

We will hand over all your boxes to the German Minister of Environment Sigmar Gabriel on the pre-conference, December 2007 in Berlin and they will be exhibited at the conference in May 2008.

Some of them will be published in the internet and hopefully in a book, too. Take part in our action and you will get a book for free.

Send your boxes (max. 15 cm x 20 cm x 40 cm - just like a shoe-box) including the info-page  by 10th November 2007 to our address – your postage will be refunded.
There will be two more deadlines for your boxes:
November 10^th 2007 and April 8^th 2008.
